I want to address a dangerous, profoundly dishonest historical lie that frequently pops up in creationist circles. Just a few hours ago, a commenter in another group regurgitated the typical, uneducated script:

Let me be redundantly, absolutely, and undeniably clear:
I totally despise, reject, and condemn this claim as a complete fabrication. It is an insult to historical reality and an insult to the memory of the actual scientists who paid with their lives.
Basically "darwinist martyrs of science" - no hyperbole!

The historical truth is precisely the opposite of the claim:
The Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin did not embrace Darwinism — they officially banned it, declared standard evolutionary biology a "bourgeois heresy," and systematically imprisoned and murdered real evolutionary scientists.

The War on Evolution: Lysenkoism
In the 1930s and 1940s, Stalin made the pseudoscientific ideas of Trofim Lysenko the official state doctrine of Soviet biology (Lysenkoism). Lysenko fiercely rejected Darwinian natural selection and Mendelian genetics, labeling the concept of genes a "capitalist, Western invention." Instead, the Soviet regime enforced a warped version of Lamarckism (the belief that organisms pass on traits acquired purely from their environment).
Mainstream biologists who defended Darwinian evolution were branded "enemies of the people." Over 3,000 scientists were dismissed, exiled, or sent to the Gulags.
So, dear creationists, since some of you insist, I say that by any logic you are "in the same boat with communists" in your attack on Darwinism. Congratulations, COMRADES!
The most famous martyr of this anti-Darwinian purge was Nikolai Vavilov, one of the greatest botanists and evolutionary geneticists in world history.
For defending standard evolutionary science against state pseudoscience, Vavilov was arrested by Stalin's secret police, sentenced to death, and eventually died of starvation in a Soviet prison in 1943.
Other brilliant evolutionary geneticists and Darwinists executed or destroyed by Stalin include:
- Solomon Levit: A pioneering human geneticist who applied Darwinian principles to medical research. He was arrested, falsely labeled an American spy by the regime, and executed in 1938.
- Georgii Karpechenko: A world-famous biologist known for his brilliant work on plant hybridization and genetics. He was executed by a Soviet firing squad in 1941.
- Israel Agol: A prominent geneticist and philosopher of science who fiercely defended Darwinism against Lamarckian distortions. He was arrested and shot in 1937 under the false charge of Trotskyism.
The Cost of Denying Reality
The Soviet Union tried to run its entire agricultural system on an ideological, anti-natural-selection fantasy. They genuinely believed that if you grew wheat in a "socialist environment," it would magically transform into rye without any genetic changes.
The result of this state-enforced denial of evolution was the total collapse of Soviet biological science, catastrophic crop failures, and widespread famines that cost millions of human lives.
When modern creationists try to blame Darwin for the crimes of Communism, they are counting on your total ignorance of history.
Communism didn't use Darwinism; it tried to exterminate it.

Note: Please excuse my angry post, but when real martyrs, who died for their honest convictions pro science get killed and then after that some (!) creationists basically dance on their graves and lie against them, this makes my blood boil. Hoping you understand.
Note2: No trickery I was also outraged when Christian woman named Asia Bibi was on death row in Pakistan for her Christian faith and I was happy when she came free and could flee to Canada. I feel I am not biased in this. Can you say the same?
