Sapient?

We call ourselves "Homo sapiens", meaning "Wise man".

Are we? Look around you. Are we really so wise? 

An obscene amount of money, effort and ingenuity is invested in "defence", which means the means of making war. 

This, in a world that is crying out for peace - for investing in the wellbeing of us all.

Imagine all of that money, effort and ingenuity being invested, instead of in the means to murder one another, but in equitable food distribution, in health, in education and in productive research instead, reducing the causes of conflict.

Why can't we do this? Are we not smart enough?

Look at the causes of conflict. Look at the refugee and illegal immigration "problems". Aren't there smarter ways of addressing these problems?

We seem to be good at picking morons with severe inter-personality disorders as our leaders and not the finest of our numbers.

We seem to be a species that can so easily be triggered into distrust and hateful and even genocidal behaviour towards the "other".

Why? This is why I began to study evolutionary psychology. Why are we the way we are? 

And this is why I am such a staunch promoter and defender of evolutionary science. The way to begin to address our problems is to better understand human nature, and an evolutionary perspective is essential for gaining this understanding.
