I frequently link to my blog pages from Facebook groups that discuss science, theology, and most frequently, creationism.
After having been in these sorts of groups for some time, I see the same topics come up over and over again. Creationists and intelligent designer spotters post the same old crud repeatedly.
So I decided to put my thoughts down in the pages of a blog to save myself the trouble of having to write responses every single time.
Now, I get accused of self-promotion and spamming.
My blog pages are no more self-promotion than your Facebook posts.
The top page of my blog says, "The blog is not monetised. I make nothing from it. It mostly concerns evidence for evolution and comments on creationist material, with other pages that I hope you will find interesting."
The blog contains no ads.
The complainers often link to and promote the for-profit creationist blogs such as Answers in Genesis, Creation dot com and the Institute for Creation Research etc. All of these I am barred from, not because I have been unpleasant, but because they know that I know my stuff.
People say they won't follow links. How do they think they get around Facebook? It's a common dishonest creationist tactic, trying to divert from the issue under discussion. It is a pathetic excuse. The medium doesn't matter. Address the content.
In addition, the layout, formatting and navigation in Facebook is pathetic - barely beyond the teletype era.
A single Facebook comment is often insufficient to deal with a topic adequately.
People whining about being asked to follow a link is also pathetic.
