Should I stay or should I go?

People are comparing the number of "Leave" votes in the deeply flawed Brexit referendum with the number of signatures in the petition to remain in the E.U.

Is this a sensible comparison?

No. It assumes that all the people who voted "leave", voted for leave without a deal. They did not.

A sensible comparison to make is the ones between the petitions expressly asking for a leave without a deal, one in March, and another one by April 12, with the one asking for the government to forget the whole stupid idea.
At the time of writing this, the figures are 604,104 and 197,078 for crashing out with no deal,
and 6,056,583 for forgetting it.
Those wanting a kamikaze Brexit are clearly a small minority.
