Re. "CRISPR pioneer Feng Zhang's latest work delivers mRNA, gene therapy with a human protein"

Thank you, Tavian Oladapo for bringing this article to my attention on Facebook.

The field of gene editing opens up vast possibilities for the treatment and prevention of viral infections, the treatment of hereditary diseases, and for pure research.

Zhang's work here is informed by our knowledge of retroviruses, and it exploits the features of retroviral enzymes.

My point here is that none of this work could possibly have been informed by the "work" of intelligent design enthusiasts or creationists, who, when asked to explain why endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are to be found in common DNA loci in the genomes of different species, merely bleat that they were "designed".

The "design" argument has no informative or explanatory power whatsoever.

Common ERVs are extremely powerful evidence for common ancestry. I would go so far as to say that they put it beyond any reasonable doubt. Only unreasonable doubts remain.
