It says that the earth and the waters brought forth different "kinds" of living organisms.
(Note that this is describing abiogenesis - life arising from non-living matter.)
In the 17th century, nobody knew about evolution, because it had not yet been discovered.
Nevertheless, these facts do not deter creationists from claiming that different "kinds" of creatures cannot transform from one "kind" to another, whatever that means.
Nothing in scripture suggests that they can't.
French Bibles use the word «espèces», instead of "kind", which is a loose general term meaning, 'type', 'sort' or 'species'.
Instead of 'after their kind', it has «selon leur espèce», which means 'according to their type, sort or species'.
No Bibles have the phrase, 'reproduce after their kind'.
'Reproduce after their kind' is a creationist fabrication, intended to give false Biblical 'authority' to evolution-denial, but it cannot be a valid interpretation, because the scripture was written before we got evolution worked out.
Very few creationists, it seems, have actually read Genesis.
It goes against Christian principles to distort, add to, or subtract from Scripture, but nothing seems to prevent them.
