"Barry, I grew up Christian and became enthused about creationism from the time I was about 13. Met Kent Hovind personally (at an age when I still looked up to him), been to Ken Ham's creation museum, and had a subscription to the Answers In Genesis magazine for years... been there, done that.

The desire to become an authority on the subject (you know, the rare example of a creationist with a legitimate education) led me to go back to school at 23 and eventually major in biochemistry. As you might imagine, it's tough to get through a few semesters of genetics, evolution, and organic and biochemistry without being confronted with information that challenges a literal view of Genesis.

To put it shortly, a science education is what did it. I don't think it's quite as likely to change someone's mind on the internet but that's partly why I think the approach we take is important: focusing on science literacy and enlightenment over being disrespectful and burning bridges." - Bryan Gitschlag.
