As I so often have to, I need to point out that science and theology are different topics. Evolution is not a subject for this group.
Having said that, I'm a retired teacher, and British, and a lifelong atheist. I attended a teacher training college, founded by Christians, that taught evolution. They even took us on trips to Darwin's Down House. I agree with religious education (not indoctrination), which is the norm in British schools. Students need to know about what people in the world at large believe. It's an aspect of the world that they need to navigate. They also need a good grounding in evolutionary science for the same reason, whether they agree with it or not.
