The meaning of "atheist" keeps coming up in discussions about - the meaning of "atheist". Perhaps this will help clarify matters.
The 'a' prefix means 'not' or 'without'.
Amoral means without reference to any morals.
Asymmetrical means not symmetrical.
Atonal means not melodious.
Atypical means not typical.
Achromatic means not colourful.
Asexual, not sexual.
Analgesia, absence of pain.
Anaesthesia, insensitivity.
Anarchy, lack of recognition of authority.
Anhydrous, without water.
Anabaptist, not baptising infants.
Anachronism, not belonging to the here and now.
Aphasia, loss of language or reasoning skills.
Asymptomatic, without symptoms.
Astigmatism, without point.
Anosmia, without a sense of smell.
Abys, bottomless.
Apathy, lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. (Without pathos).
Agnostic, not possible to know of the existence or non-existence of gods.
Atheistic means without belief in god(s). That's all it means. Not theistic.
If anyone can find other examples, they will be gratefully received.
It has been said before but worth repeating that atheism is a belief system or a religion like baldness is a hairstyle, like off is a TV channel and like an empty plate is a meal. If anyone wants to say, disparagingly, that atheism is a religion, then they need to explain what is so bad about religion. Oh, and please note that "atheism and "atheist" are not proper nouns, so they are not to be capitalised unless they are the first word of a sentence, and the plural form of "atheist" is "atheists". We don't say, "the atheist". That's the sort of expression racists use when they talk about "the black man". We are legion.

It suits the motivation of theists to insist that they know how atheists think better than atheists themselves. Ask us. Do not try to tell us.
